Sustainability

At Velaa, caring for the island means caring for everything that defines it — the ocean, the land, and the communities of Noonu Atoll. Our sustainability efforts help protect this remarkable place today, while preserving it for tomorrow.

Our commitment to the people of the Maldives

Life here is shaped by the people. Their warmth, their traditions, and their deep connection to these islands. It is our honour to support their wellbeing, and to contribute to the community that so generously welcomed us when Velaa became our home.

THE FEHIKURAMAA INITIATIVE

Supporting the local community

Fehikuramaa Maldives is a community outreach and sustainability programme led by Velaa, supporting Noonu Atoll since 2021.

Through school programmes, workshops, and local partnerships, the initiative focuses on health, education, and environmental awareness — from encouraging healthier lifestyles to supporting waste reduction and local food production.

The aim is to create a lasting positive impact while helping protect the natural environment that surrounds us all.

CORAL REGENERATION PROGRAMME

Looking after the ocean around us

To help preserve the Maldives’ extraordinary underwater world for future generations, Velaa supports one of the country’s largest coral restoration programmes, led by our dedicated marine team.

Guests can snorkel or dive with our resident marine biologist, learning about the delicate work of protecting and restoring marine life. They may also adopt their own coral line, becoming part of Velaa’s growing coral rainforest — with a certificate and updates on its progress over time.
